Family still awaits answers year after son killed by Taser – Sun Sentinel

Assistant State Attorney Brian Cavanagh said the case had been delayed due to the retirement of the prosecutor assigned to it, and has been reassigned to a team that expects to present findings to a grand jury in the coming months.   "The family is obviously disappointed the State Attorney's Office has not moved this case further," family attorney Jarrett Blakeley said. "We can't see any evidence they are investigating or actually doing anything. If we saw they were doing something, it would be easier to be patient. But we haven't heard anything. We don't understand why it's taking this long. Lawyer banned from Broward jail after inmate-sex allegation – Sun Sentinel

It appears Mishali will not face criminal charges for the alleged tryst, but by Thursday afternoon the incident had triggered an emergency hearing before a Broward judge, an investigation by the Florida Bar and Mishali’s banishment from all five Broward jails.   Granda is jailed on four felony charges including two counts of attempted murder, records show. He was released from a Florida prison in March 2012 after serving the majority of a four-year sentence for a conviction on two counts of attempted murder in Miami-Dade County.   A jail deputy walked in on #Jessica Mishali, 35, and her client, convicted felon #Ysreal Granda, 26, about 3 p.m. Wednesday and saw the pair “engaged in what appeared to be sexual intercourse,” a police report said.   A defense lawyer has been banished from all five Broward jails after a deputy saw her bent over a table apparently having sex with an inmate in an interview room at the Main Jail, authorities said.   Defense l…

Tornado flips vehicles, minor injuries reported in northern Broward County – Sun Sentinel

Florida Power & Light Co. said 333 customers in #Broward #County were without power, but it was not immediately clear if those outages were all caused by the storm, a spokesman said.   Perhaps the most dramatic wind event: A passenger vehicle traveling south on Florida's Turnpike was carried to the northbound lanes of the highway, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.   A new warning for severe thunder storms and potentially more tornadoes was issued at 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. for south/central Palm Beach County and northwest Broward County.   An apparent #tornado that touched down in northern Broward County Wednesday morning overturned trucks, crashed cars and was blamed for the loss of electric power. Injuries were minor, according to initial reports by authorities.   First reports of the storm came at about 9:30 a.m. in the Broward College area and in the area of Florida's Turnpike a few minutes after that, said Arlena Moses, a me…
