Police find bodies believed to be man’s missing wife, daughters

Authorities on Thursday discovered three bodies they believe to be a missing Colorado woman and her two young daughters, officials said. Police are working to confirm their identities.

Shanann Watts, who was 15 weeks pregnant, was reported missing Monday along with her two daughters, Bella, 3, and Celeste, 4. Her husband, Chris Watts, was taken into custody Wednesday night and is being held in the Weld County Jail, north of Denver, the Frederick Police Department said in a statement.

"At this point we have been able to recover a body that we're quite certain is Shanann Watts' body," Colorado Bureau of Investigation Director John Camper told reporters Thursday.

The same day, Frederick Police said they believed they found the bodies of Bella and Celeste.

Police fatally shoot armed resident who killed intruder during home invasion

AURORA, Colo. —

A man who fatally shot an intruder in his suburban Denver home early Monday was killed by responding officers who saw him holding a weapon, investigators said.

Police received multiple calls about a break-in at the home at about 1:30 a.m., and when officers arrived, they heard gunshots inside, The Aurora Sentinel reported.

Aurora police, who described the scene in a statement as “very chaotic and violent,” said they encountered an armed man and fatally shot him. That man turned out to be the person who lived in the home. A second man, the suspected intruder, was found dead during a search.

A child also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries at the hands of the intruder, but police did not release additional details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Protests erupt after man fatally shot by Chicago police

An angry crowd gathered Saturday evening after a Chicago police officer fatally shot a man on the city's South Side, and some protesters scuffled with police.

Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the shooting happened when officers on foot in the South Shore neighborhood tried to question a man "exhibiting characteristics of an armed person."

Larry Merritt, a fire department spokesman, said the man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No police officers were injured, Guglielmi said. A weapon was recovered at the scene, he said, but did not say whether the man was armed when he was shot.

A scuffle later broke out at the scene of the shooting between chanting protesters and police officers holding batons. Video showed several police officers and protesters shoving each other. The Chicago Sun-Times said a few protesters were taken away by police.

Fort Pierce Police identify body found in pond


Fort Pierce Police are investigating after a body was found in a pond at a country club on Gator Trace Road.

Police have identified the body as Scott McPhillips, 43, of Fort Pierce.

McPhillips body was found at Gator Trace Golf and Country Club around 9 a.m. on Saturday in Fort Pierce.

No word if foul play is suspected.

Police are investigating a hit and run crash that occurred Friday night in Palm Beach Gardens.

Witnesses told police that a red or maroon sports utility type vehicle struck 72-year-old Patrick Meehan as he crossed the street. Palm Beach Gardens police say the accident happened around 11:40 p.m on N. Military Trail, just north of PGA Boulevard.

The vehicle fled the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on PGA Boulevard.

Police believe there is front end damage to the vehicle.
